Scripture: "And be not conformed to
this world: but be ye transformed by the
renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is
that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of
God."
Romans 12:2 (KJV)
WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?
Ever heard that one hurled at you when you
already felt bad enough that you can barely hold
your head up? I guess I can say that for those
of you that know me well, I've probably heard
that statement more than you all and have even
asked myself that same question over and over
and over again.
We're all bombarded from every side: from the
time we wake up in the mornings until the time
we retire in the evenings. Every one seemingly
wants an answer, or some guidance, or to just
push your buttons and get you riled up. So how
can we keep our minds on God?
Our text begins to answer that question by not
conforming to this world: but "... being
transformed by the renewing of your mind."
That means the real answer is "choice". The
Power of the brain begins with that very
central, "core action" of "CHOICE".
If you need to go to the grocery store... you
have to "choose" to go - right? When you got a
job - you more or less "chose" to commit
yourself to going to work everyday and doing as
the boss says, and if you made the "choice" NOT
to do that at any time during your employment...
there would be penalties involved.
The Power of thought is a way of life and needs
to be "fine-tuned" everyday - sometimes several
times a day until it becomes a way of life.
Now, you have to be careful with that because
this "way of life" can lead to legalism. In
fact, many religions work on the mind using this
principal, because if they win the mind, they've
got the person. You will do all kinds of things
in the name of that religion and their deity,
because they have focused your mind on it.
That's why in this day and age it is necessary
to be grounded in the WORD and to begin to rely
on The Holy Spirit to speak to your heart and
spirit about what is "of God" and what isn't.
Again - it's a matter of CHOICE!
Everyday - we reason and imagine'; we consider
the possibilities and choose to see them in a
positive or negative light. We meditate and
contemplate - even brood over situations that we
have no control over, in an endless stream of
"what ifs...". We anticipate and mentally
aggregate the sum total of the heaviness of
our lives... never once gaining control of
whose we are (In Christ), and remembering
those faithful words....
"He
restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of
righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I
walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy
rod and thy staff they comfort me." Psalm
23: 23,24 (KJV)
Oh my
friend... it's all about his presence... it's
all about His presence...
Nothing about your life will EVER seem grounded
until you discover that: grab hold of that, and
truly begin to "live it"!
Let's pray:
Father, I need you to be more a part of my life
on a daily basis. I have been so confused and so
encumbered by the WORLD crises that I find
myself sometimes hardened towards the special
times when you and I would come aside and just
fellowship together. I need that again Lord. I
know I need to choose to do it and to even put
some other things aside or maybe stop doing them
altogether so that I can spend time with you -
meditating on your WORD and hearing your voice.
Oh Jesus, I Come.
