In The Garden Daily Devotional
Palm Sunday Message LIVES
"The Deliverer Has Come"
Pastor Wayne Clabaugh
Scripture Text: "On the next day much people
that were come to the feast, when they heard that
Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, Took branches of palm
trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried,
Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh
in the name of the Lord." John 12:12,13 (KJV)
As I mentioned in yesterday's devotional, I was
going to try and lay aside the verses in Matthew and
concentrate solely on the verses here in the book of
John speaking of the wonderful Name of
Hosannah which comes from the root word YASHA which
means to save, be saved, or be delivered.
Yet there were some very interesting things I
discovered from my studies on this word that led me
back
to verse 9 and 10 of Matthew Chapter 6 where Jesus
says,
"After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father
which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy
kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in
heaven." Mat 6:9,10 (KJV)
When Speaking of something that is hallowed - we
refer to something or someone that is
acknowledged to be holy and separated from profane
things, it is that word in the Greek <Hagiazo>
which means to dedicate to God; to concentrate, to
purify.
Now, there is so much information here that I will
have a tendency to want to just blurt it all out at
once -
and it needs to be declared - it needs to be
applied to the doorposts of our life as we enter
this
Passover season that actually begins today and runs
through April the 6th. I will try to be as concise
as
I can, but there is some really good stuff here so
pardon me if I get a bit verbose. I want so much for
you to get this.
First let's return to that word "Hosanna". Let me say
that during the account of Jesus is the only time
that
the Palm branches that were normally taken and
shaken or waved Heavenward were unbound and
strewn before the Master as He entered the gates of
the city of Jerusalem. That's important and I want
you to remember that as we go along - I'm going to
return to it here in a bit.
The protocol if I can borrow that word and apply it
here to this particular passage found in John 12 and
Matthew 6 of crying Hosanna as Jesus came into the
city was not just a scattered "Hosannah". The
protocol or practice of a "Hosannah" (I will return to
that in a minute) was usually done in conjunction
with
Psalms 118 and was an actual practice or ritual
so-to- peak that was performed in worship during
this
particular time period of the Passover.
If we go to Matthew 21:9 we read
"And the multitudes that went before, and that
followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the Son of
David:
Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord;
Hosanna in the highest." Matthew 21:9 (KJV)
Did you catch a timeline in that verse? "...the
multitudes that went before and they that followed
after
cried saying, Hosanna to the Son of David: Blessed
is he that cometh in the name of the Lord"
Those that came before were those that knew Christ
and had experienced the things that he had done
and were His witnesses of those things. Those who
followed after Christ were those who were yet
seeking the Master - or better still, the deliverer
- yet to come.
This was along the lines of the ritual of the
"Hossanah" spoken of using the verses in Psalm 118:1
"O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good:
because his mercy endureth for ever." that they
would
say at the beginning of the ritual as they waved
their Lulabs (Clusters of bound Palm tree branches).
Then they would again wave their Lulabs in the air
toward the end of the end of the reading of Psalm
118 during the 25 verse where it says... "Save now, I
beseech thee, "O LORD: O LORD, I beseech
thee, send now prosperity."
Once again we have that theory of before and behind.
As Jesus entered the city the scriptures tell us in
Mathew 21:9
"And the multitudes that went before, and that
followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the Son of
David:
Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord;
Hosanna in the highest." Matthew 21:9 (KJV)
Now this is getting too long for today so I will
save some for tomorrow - and trust me my friends you
will
be blessed so make sure you check out tomorrow's
devotional... but I'm going to leave off today where
I began by revealing to you a wonderful truth as I
promised at the beginning of this devotional - and
promised I would come back to it... and here it is.
As I told you at the beginning, this was the first
time that the clusters of "Lulabs" or "Honsannahs" were
broken and strewn before and after the Lord as he
entered the city of Jerusalem. Are you getting this?
"O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good:
because his mercy endureth for ever." Psalm 118:1
before ....
and
"Save now, I beseech thee, "O LORD: O
LORD, I beseech thee, send now prosperity."
Psalms 118:25 behind... Crying out "Hosanna to the
Lord".
These "Lulabs" or "Honsannahs" were most usually palm
branches that were grouped together in what they
termed as a "hands-width" and then bound by little
ties that would keep them bound during the reading
of Psalms 118 and the ceremony of the "Lulabs" or
"Honsannahs". It was suggested that those of higher
standing and position would bind theirs with their gold binders. Oh my... what a message for someone out
there this morning who is holding on to their gold
and even have bound their faith in their gold
instead of laying it all at the feet of Jesus. AND THAT'S JUST WHAT THESE PEOPLE DID WHEN JESUS
THE
DELIVERER CAME! For the first time and the only time
throughout History that I have been able to find -
they unbound their "Lulabs" or
"Honsannahs" and laid
them - NO! They cast them down at the feet of
Jesus crying out Hosanna to the Son of David:
"Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord;
Hosanna in the highest." Matthew 21:9 (KJV)
Oh friend... Jesus has by His suffering, death and
resurrection - DELIVERED YOU from every weight that
doth so easily besets you (Ref., Hebrews 12:1), and
HE HAS BROKEN EVERY FETTER AND SET YOU FREE!
What an Awesome word from the Lord today my friends.
"For of old time he has broken thy yoke, and burst
thy bands;" (ref., Jer 2:20), now it is time that you
and I do as we have promised and determine to not
transgress against Him and declare the Glory of the
Lord by our lives and by our testimony for the time
is short when He will come through that Eastern Gate
one last time and He will be King of Kings and Lord
of Lords FOREVER AND EVER AMEN!
Let's pray....
Oh Father God, this study is exciting and I can't
wait to get back to it again tomorrow to deliver to
your people the awesome words you have for us. How I
do bless Your Name this morning Father and pray that
you will become the King of Kings and Lord of Lords
in the Lives of every reader or hearer of this WORD
today! In Jesus' Name I Pray, Amen.
