Jesus The Teacher - Pt 4
"20/20 Rule"
Pastor Wayne Clabaugh
Scripture Reading: Matthew 7: 7-11
Scripture Text:"Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men
should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is
the law and the prophets." Matthew 7:12 (KJV)
I wish I had 20/20 vision. I have a 32 year old daughter
who still claims to have 20/20 vision - and I have
no reason to doubt her... she goes hunting every year
and always tags her deer. She's also an avid
mushroom hunter, and hair- dresser and man can she sing.
Okay... .the singing and hair dressing I
guess I have nothing to do with eyesight... but I
thought I would just throw them in there to impress you
what a great gal she is. I guess I should mention then
that she has 6 children - everyone in school and
participating in all kinds of intramural sports.
Uh-OH... having 20/20 vision couldn't help her to have
the
good foresight to see how much work that was going to
take. Oh... did I mention she takes care of a
little shut-in or two in the mornings? ...and that she
has a 'real' job too?
Well, while we're proud of all of our children and love
them very much, we know from experience that
20/20 vision doesn't always have anything to do with
eyesight.
Oh I could mention the scripture that says, "seek ye
first the things of God and his righteousness, and
all these things shall be added unto you" (ref., Matthew
6:33) and it would very easily apply, but I'm
talking this morning about a very different type of
20/20 vision. I'm talking about looking in your mirror
and seeing mankind. Or... looking at mankind and seeing
yourself.
I'll soon hit the 58 year mark of my life, and I am
'still' learning that 20/20 rule of life. it's not
something
that comes natural like 20/20 vision and God never
intended for it to be a 'gift' like 20/20 vision. It's
something you.. I... we ALL have to work at, and I'm
afraid we're too late on the national scene. But we
can start again. We can plant a seed with the next
person we meet to do unto them as we would desire
to have them do unto us. It's not rocket science...
it's a lifestyle change that this world badly needs.
Determine to apply the 20/20 rule to just one person
today. Tomorrow add another and the next day another
until you have made it your way of life. You'll be on
your way to changing the world!
Let's pray.
Father.. this is such a simple principal, and yet so
hard to apply because that flesh-nature sometimes wells
up inside of me and causes me to become offended at the
actions of others towards me. Remind me that while it is
a sacrifice that I am making at the first... it is a
seed I 'choose' to plant for the betterment of life as I
know it. Who knows Father... maybe it will spread so far
and so fast that with Your help, we will be able to
change the world. In Jesus' Name I Pray, Amen.
