Scripture Text:
"Confess your faults one to another, and
pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The
effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth
much." Jas 5:16 (KJV)
What does that mean: "The effectual fervent prayer
of a righteous man availeth much"?
The Word effectual means: Producing or sufficient to
produce a desired effect; fully adequate.
Did you notice those words, "sufficient to produce a
desired effect; fully adequate"?
The problem with the word effectual is that it is an
adjective - which means it is merely descriptive;
there is no action applied. In order for the word
"effectual" to take on life so-to-speak, it needs to
be empowered by an action.
Prayer is the same way. We can speak of prayer (and
we will), and we can even get into the position
of
praying: we can even mouth the words of a prayer...
but unless we apply a heart, mind and soul action
(faith) it
is of no use.
The Lord awakened me the other night and He told me
to write this down, and it will be the foundation
for our study together for our next few times
together and hopefully the foundation for our lives.
He told me to write...
"The Heart of God, The Hand of God, The Very Power
of God to express Himself through Your Life today
and in the future is found in prayer. (Your prayer
life)
Let me ask you today...
Do you pray? No, I'm not speaking about saying, "Why
me Lord?" I'm not speaking of a "ditty" that you
have used as you sit down to eat for so many years
that you could mumble it in your sleep; I'm talking
about seeking God's will for your life today as he
leads you throughout your day. I'm talking about
pleading the Blood over your children and your
spouse that the Lord God will not only keep them
safe but will keep them true to Him and walking on
the straight and narrow. I'm talking about praying
for our Nation and for our leaders REMEMBERING that
PRAYER DOES CHANGE THINGS! So let me ask you again?
Are you a praying person? Do you know the measure of
what God can really do... could really
do in your life if you would become a man or a woman
of prayer? We will be speaking of this all week in
our devotional series "A New Way of Life".
Let's pray:
Father: I am called by your Name and yet, if my
actual time in fellowship with you in prayer was the
evidence that was needed to prove that I was a
Christian, I would certainly fall short. Father, I
need a change this year in my life and in my job and
my family situations. I begin today to become a
man(woman) of prayer. I begin by asking you to go
with me today and to keep my family safe and under
the blood of Jesus as they go about their daily
routine today. Help me to become more like you
Jesus, for I ask this in Your Name and For Your
Sake, Amen. |
